Steve Lawson says Hamilton being the better team in their 3-2 defeat to Ayr United counts for nothing.
Hamilton arguably outplayed the Championship leaders at New Douglas Park last Friday night, but fell behind to an early Dipo Akinyemi strike.
Jean-Pierre Tiehi had a goal controversially disallowed, but Lawson levelled from the spot in 50 minutes, only for Akinyemi to bag his and Ayr’s second of the game in 69 minutes.
Hamilton again levelled through a Finn Ecrepont own-goal in 80 minutes, but conceded a penalty just two minutes later, with Ben Dempsey netting the winner.
Looking ahead to a trip to third-placed Dundee on Saturday, a side that has beat them twice already, including a 3-0 thumping in the Premier Sports Cup at Dens Park, Lawson says Accies’ fortunes must improve, but he has no worries.
The former Livingston midfielder said: “We came back twice in the game and conceded a penalty. I’m not even sure it was a penalty, but it’s frustrating, because I felt like we played well.
“We just need to take the positives, because if we play like that in every game I’m 100 per cent sure we’re not going to be bottom of the league at the end of the season.
“We need to keep going and move forward.
“We played against the team at the top of the league and outplayed them for most of the game, but we lost at the end.
“We need to play well and win games, because playing well doesn’t get us points, and we need points.
“We need to keep doing what we did and win games the next time.
“We will be okay because we are professional players in that team.
“We have some players who know how to deal with that, and we have young players, so we’ll just move in the same direction.
“We’ll keep fighting, the training intensity is very high, so I’m not worried.
“I’m just frustrated. We’re playing well but not winning. It will come.”
Dundee ran out 2-0 winners at New Douglas Park on October 1 when Lawson again thinks Accies were unlucky.
He said: “Dundee have beat us twice this season but that’s nothing, because I feel like in the second half here we were the better team on the pitch.
“We can win every game and we can get beat in every game, so for me there’s no favourite and we’re not scared of anyone.
“We’re just going to take that game and try to win it, like very game.”
