What’s new: Gao Peng, a vice mayor of Beijing, has been removed from his post shortly after he became the target of graft busters.
The city’s legislative body approved Gao’s dismissal Friday. The decision came more than a month after the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced an investigation into Gao, citing “serious violations of discipline and law.”
Gao’s name and profile have been removed from the Beijing municipal government’s website.
Gao was last seen in public on April 4 when he attended a national-level meeting on forest and grassland fire prevention in Beijing.
Background: Gao, 51, was the youngest vice mayor of the capital since being appointed to the post January 2023.
He was in charge of matters related to urban management, transportation, agriculture and rural affairs, and assisted in emergency management, according to the Beijing government’s official English-language website.
Gao spent at least two decades of his career in the capital, including six years at Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co. Ltd., the state-owned company that finances and operates Beijing’s subway system. Gao has a doctorate in economics.
