Beijing Appoints New Sci-Tech Vice Minister

What’s new: Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) President Long Teng, a radar expert, has been appointed vice minister of science and technology, the State Council announced Thursday, one of a batch of new appointments.

The 56-year-old, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, has studied and worked at BIT for over 30 years, specializing in basic scientific research of radar information processing. He became president of China’s top technology and engineering university in May 2022.

What’s more: On Thursday, the State Council, China’s cabinet, also appointed two assistant ministers of public security: Liu Zhongyi, a criminal investigation expert, and Hu Binbin, a Cambridge University-educated criminologist in charge of international police cooperation at the Ministry of Public Security.

Meanwhile, Mo Gaoyi, publicity head of the Beijing municipal Communist Party Committee, was appointed director of the State Council Information Office. Wu Zhaohui, vice minister of science and technology, has been named vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
