Behind the scenes of Chelsea's celebrations in Abu Dhabi after winning Club World Cup

When the final whistle went on a gruelling night in Abu Dhabi and Chelsea's players and staff could finally say they were champions of the world, Roman Abramovich was quick to join them.

The owner had flown in to see if the Blues could win this competition for the first time and, in a light blue blazer, he made a beeline for Thomas Tuchel.

A high five arrived and the sense that this tournament, an opportunity to win it all, was really important had been driven home once again.

FIFA still seem to find new ways to draw out trophy presentations and before Chelsea's players could get their medals there were individual awards for players, third-place Al Ahly got some medals and a guard of honour before Palmeiras took their turn on the blue stage assembled on the halfway line.

When it was finally Cesar Azpilicueta's moment to lift the trophy a fireworks display began - only for it to cause a partial power cut at a stadium that had been beset by logistical problems from well before kick-off with media unable to get any internet access (feel free to play the world's smallest violin).

The lights went out, the music stopped and the video screens froze, leaving Chelsea's players to celebrate in near darkness. Someone flipped the switch five minutes later and Blue is the colour started playing before also cutting out midway through.

John Terry was pitchside by that point. He spoke with Mason Mount for a couple of minutes before embracing Abramovich, technical adviser Petr Cech and director Marina Granovskaia. In a black suit for those of you who find the full kit gags irresistible.

Club joker Billy McCulloch wrestled matchwinner Kai Havertz to the floor, while Romelu Lukaku's immediate reaction was to fall to his knees. Former striker Didier Drogba had been part of the jubilation too.

Abramovich had spent the game sitting in a the VVIP area of Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium and could be seen posing for pictures with various dignitaries during half time, although it would be fascinating to see what he thought of a Palmeiras official dancing along to one of their chants near him with the game tied 1-1.

He stuck around after posing for a quick picture with the new bit of silverware, chin resting on one hand while standing next to Cech and Granovskaia, for several minutes as the players applauded the Chelsea supporters - the majority of them from India, an estimated 500 from London - before heading down the tunnel.

Nineteen years since buying the club, he can now say every major trophy has been in their possession.
