Beeston driver caught using mobile phone given six points and £200 fine

A driver from Beeston has been handed a £200 fine and six points on their licence after being caught using their mobile phone while driving. Beeston specials policing team - part of Nottinghamshire Police - stopped the vehicle in question after noticing the offender was driving one-handed.

The driver, who was also speeding, was stopped and handed a traffic offence report and was reported for their actions.

In the UK, stricter laws came into effect on March 25 surrounding the use of mobile phones and devices whilst driving. This means you cannot have the device in your hand for any reason.

According to gov.uk, the law still applies when you are stopped at traffic lights, queuing in traffic and supervising a learner driver. You can get a fine of up to £200 - a maximum of £1,000 or £2,500 if driving a lorry or bus - and six penalty points, and can lose your licence if you have passed your driving test in the last two years.

You can also get three points if you do not have a full view of the road and traffic ahead or proper control of the vehicle.
