Viewers are raving about a new Netflix series that has received an almost perfect 99 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes. BEEF has been hailed as the TV streaming giant’s “best original show” in years following its release on Thursday (April 6).
The dark comedy follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers. And it's so gripping that some viewers stayed up all night binge-watching the show.
Described by Netflix as “darkly comedic and deeply moving,” it stars The Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun alongside Always Be My Maybe actress and comedian Ali Wong. In it, Danny Cho (Yeun), a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, goes head-to-head with Amy Lau (Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life, as the increasing stakes of their feud unravel their lives and relationships, reports MEN.
The 10-part series was created by South Korean writer Lee Sung Jin, who was recently tapped to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe by penning the script for the upcoming antihero blockbuster Thunderbolts. It is produced by independent studio A24, the company behind a host of acclaimed films including Lady Bird, Uncut Gems, The Lighthouse, The Whale and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Reviewers on Google also gave the show four and a half stars out of five. One person wrote: "This is such a fantastic show. It's been a while I've been looking for a captiving, hilarious, thoughtful, and provoking series. The acting is very well done, and the characters are so believable, they're like people you'd meet in real life. The humor isn't cheap like a lot of the other junk found on Netflix."
Another said: "Brilliant, just brilliant. I typically do not deviate from true crime and suspense or thriller series; I am beyond pleased that I gave this show a chance.
"This series is captivating. It instantly sucked me in and I could not stop watching, aka, stayed up until 3:30 am, even though I have a toddler that wakes up early. I don’t regret a thing. This series is the perfect combination of relatability, humor, and quirk."
Fans also flocked to social media to say they were struggling to stop watching the series. One person wrote: “Oh god why did I start watching A24’s BEEF on Netflix at 3am I can’t stop watching it, it’s so good.”
