Bedlington yob headbutted ex and 'bit' her new partner on breast after barging into her home

A violent yob headbutted her ex and "bit" her new partner on the breast after barging into her home.

Kayleigh Gair had split up with the victim a few weeks prior to turning up to her address late at night and letting herself in uninvited. A court heard that the 27-year-old started screaming abuse before launching an unprovoked assault on the woman and her new partner.

Prosecutors said that Gair headbutted her former partner in the face, causing her nose to bleed, before punching her to the head and stealing her phone. The lout, who has a previous offence for stalking the same victim, also "bit" the woman's new partner on the breast, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

Gair, who denied biting the second woman and claimed she'd only punched her in the chest, eventually left the address, having sneakily taken the victim's phone, but was arrested after being reported to the police. She has now been given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after she pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft.

Judge Tim Gittins said: "People take the breakdowns of relationships badly, sometimes it's a sad period of time, but, to react in the way you did was wholly out of kilter with anything that was appropriate and, indeed, was seriously unpleasant. You attended her home under the pretext of getting property back but it was late at night.

"What you engaged in, in my opinion, both inside and outside the house, was a sustained assault on both women. You used a headbutt that caused a nose bleed. You also caused a bite, however, ultimately, I don't have to decide that because it doesn't determine the level of offending because there is repeated punching and use of abusive language."

The court heard that Gair, of Millfield North, in Bedlington, was convicted of stalking her former partner in February last year but the pair reconciled before breaking-up again the following December. Just three weeks after the split, the victim was in bed at her Ashington home with her new partner when Gair showed up late at night and let herself in.

Neil Pallister, prosecuting, said the woman tried to stop Gair running up the stairs but she managed to get passed and tried to hit her new girlfriend. Mr Pallister continued: "[The victim] managed to get in the way and, as she got between the pair, the defendant headbutted her, causing her nose to bleed."

Mr Pallister added: "[The second victim] went back in the bedroom. The defendant was still going off it saying she was going to kill her and tried to grab her by the throat. The defendant has then grabbed her bra and tried to rip it off. The defendant then lunged forward and bit her on the left breast, causing immediate pain, which resulted in a bruise."

The court was told that the three women went downstairs, where Gair punched her former partner to the face. The victim managed to push Gair outside but was punched again in the garden.

Mr Pallister said: "The defendant said she had left her phone in the house and [the first victim] asked [the second victim] to go inside and get it . However, the defendant barged passed both witnesses and ran upstairs saying she was looking for her phone. She came back down the stairs and screamed abuse and had to be pushed out the address again."

The court was told that, after Gair left, the victim discovered that she'd stolen her mobile phone. Gair subsequently used the device to post an abusive message on her former partner's Facebook page.

In a statement, Gair's ex said: "This whole situation made me feel petrified because I know what she's capable of. I feel I don't want to leave the house on my own in case she grabs me. My parents have now put cameras up as we're all concerned about what she might do in the future."

Lorraine Mustard, defending, said Gair had suffered tragedies in her life but was remorseful and had pleaded guilty. Ms Mustard added: "She's quite clear when she says she didn't bite. She accepts she may have punched her chest but she says she didn't bite."

As past of the suspended sentence, Gair wsa ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and must abide by alcohol abstinence monitoring for 80 days. She was also made subject of a restraining order, which banned her from contacting both victims, for 10 years.
