Becky Langley tells Newcastle United Women to 'get job done' in final game with title on the line

Newcastle United Women manager Becky Langley has called for her players to 'get the job done' but to remain grounded as they prepare for their final game of the season against fourth-placed Barnsley on Sunday.

The Magpies have lost just two games all season and come into this weekend knowing a win will confirm them as champions of the FA Women's National League Division One North and see them take the step up to the Women's National League Premier Division.

Coming in off the back of a 6-0 win over Bradford City Women, Langley will treat the game like any other throughout the season, with her side going through their normal preparations as usual.

"Let's get the job done now," Langley told the club's website. "We know it's not finished business, but we've got one game left and we'll be following our usual process and ensure that we perform well and put ourselves in a very promising position to gain promotion.

"Barnsley have been a very credible team over the last few seasons. The two occasions we've played them have been close games. We know it's going to be a tough ask but we have the quality to get the win."

Before their win over Bradford City Women, they also thrashed Leeds United Women 5-1 - a testament to their goalscoring prowess considering they've scored 16 more goals than anyone else in their league this season.

Looking back on the win at the University of Bradford Stadium last weekend, the boss was quick to hail the fans who made the trip to Bradford to support the Magpies and asks for the same this weekend at Barnsley.

"We set ourselves a target of scoring three goals by half time and that would give us a good platform to build on," Langley continued.

"We know we wanted to get that goal difference up but we also wanted to excite those travelling fans who made the trip to Valley Parade to cheer us on. It was a plan executed very well.

"We urge the Newcastle United Women's fans to bring their flags on Sunday to Barnsley. There was nothing more incredible than seeing so many black and white shirts and flags and banners at Valley Parade and it felt like a home support.

"If we can get the same at Barnsley that would be brilliant."

Despite 14 points separating them and Stockport County Women in third, only goal difference sits between the Magpies and Durham Cestria who face Chorley Women with kick-off at the same time as Newcastle game against Barnsley.

And while Chorley ended the Magpies' hopes of promotion last season with a brutal defeat late on in the campaign, Langley hopes they can repay them by helping them lift the title on Sunday.

"Durham Cestria have got Chorley, and they are also a strong opposition," Langley added. "They have provided tough tests each time we've played them this season and our loss away there last year saw our chances of promotion slip away.

"Despite that, we are fully focused on ourselves and ensuring we give the best representation of Newcastle United Women on Sunday against Barnsley."
