Bebe Rexha shares update on 'black and blue' eye after shocking stage attack

Bebe Rexha has shared an update on her gruesome injury, which was sustained after getting hit in the face with a phone while performing on stage last week.

The 33-year-old singer was performing in New York City when an unprovoked attack prompted her to fall to her knees in pain, leaving her with a nasty black eye and needing stitches.

Since the attack, the I'm Good hitmaker's fans have been concerned about the star, regularly asking her how she's doing and if she was recovering well.

Bebe was prompted to reply to one fan, who quizzed: "Are you feeling better though? How are your recovering?"

She quote-tweeted the question with a close selfie of her eye, which showed her previously black eye slightly cleared up since the last time she shared a snap of the injury. However, the plaster on her eyebrow, where she had to get stitches, remained there.

Bebe's fans were thrilled at the update, with one person commenting: "You're so beautiful and strong. I'm so sorry that happened to you. You deserve only love, kindness and respect because you are the nicest human being."

Another wrote: "I'm sorry this happened. I wish I could give you a hug!!! Heal up fast superstar!! You're a pro!."

A third added with a heart emoji: "Glad to hear you're feeling better! We love you so much."

Needless to say, it's been a tough week for the singer, who was overcome with emotion as she returned to the stage in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, just days after the attack.

It came after a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department confirmed to The Mirror that Nicolas Malvagna, 27, had been arrested and charged with assault.

Malvagna mentioned he threw the phone at her "because it would be funny".

"I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny," he said, according to Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

In a statement from the New York City Police Department, it was said: "On Sunday, June 18, 2023 at approximately 2200 hours, police were notified of an assault that occurred at the concert space of Pier 17 located at 89 South Street, within the confines of the 1st Precinct.

"A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a 27-year-old male intentionally threw a cell phone at a 33-year-old female performer on stage, striking her about the face.

"The individual was taken into custody on scene and removed to the 1st Precinct for arrest processing. The aided female was removed by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition," they said in a statement.

The spokesperson added: "Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual has been arrested and charged on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 2254 hours within the confines of the 1 Precinct."
