Beautiful semi-detached hidden home that comes with a tower and a turret

The three-bed semi is the backbone of British housing stock, along with traditional terraces, and they are classic homes for families with many conforming to the two reception rooms and a kitchen downstairs and two bedrooms, a 'box' room and a bathroom upstairs.

Over the years a series of owners have transformed the semis of Wales, adding extensions on the back and loft conversions at the top, but most are expanded from the core, standard semi-detached house design.

But not all semis are created equally, as this unusual example on a hillside with rural views on the outskirts of a popular Powys market town easily proves.

This semi oozes character inside and out, from the moment you arrive to the moment you complete your tour on the attic level of this four-storey abode.

The most obvious and arguably most amazing feature that greets you is the corner tower, crowned by a fabulous turret and ensuring the excitement level to look inside goes into overdrive. How many people in Wales can proudly boast their home comes with a turreted tower and it is not a castle, sprawling Gothic-style manor house, or converted chapel or church?

It's a handful and if you bag yourself this period beauty you could jump straight into that hand and happily thrive there, basking in the astonishment your friends and family will surely display when they visit for the first time. The next feature to notice and admire is the facade of the house, mixing brick colours, panels of brick patterns and detailing and stone lintels that add to the attractive face of this handsome home.

There's plenty of parking at the side of the property which is actually where you will find the front door, plus a front garden, but as this house doesn't appear to have a rear garden maybe a new owner could consider fencing off the front or the land at the side to create a more private space.

Not that this house is at all visible or accessible from the main road below, as it hugs the hillside above Newtown, Powys and hides amongst the trees at the end of a quiet residential cul-de-sac. Inside the joy at the features this beautiful home can offer continues.

The hall has stunning floor tiles that provide the colour palette suggestion of sunny yellow for the walls, and the period staircase ahead of you is a delight. But look back and appreciate the inner front door you just passed through, with an etched frosted transom window above it and flanked by slim arched windows that pay homage to their central arched neighbour.

There are deep skirtings, layered cornicing, picture rails and wide doorways housing solid, panelled internal doors that have panelled architraves too, and even a feature telephone stand - it's a fancy start to the house so of course it deserves a sparling, crystal chandelier. The interior design inside this Victorian dream home is bright and engaging, the original features in abundance and absolutely amazing.

Turning left gets you into the living room with a tower - not something you say or see everyday - and in here the period features continue and are joined by a fabulous Italian marble fireplace and eye-catching ceiling rose as well as the base of the tower, with a quartet of windows giving you curved access to garden views.

Definitely a hot spot in this house, sure to be popular with all the family, bag it first as a reading nook or study area before someone else gets their paws on it.

Next the dining room can captivate you with a substantial window looking out onto the front garden, plus a feature fireplace and built-in carpentry either side of the chimney breast. But arguably in this room the higher your eyes go, the higher the level of fantastic features, with the decorative frieze above the picture rail an added visual treat and the ceiling rose adding its intricate design to the special features of this space.

The kitchen continues the sunny yellow theme on the walls and the floor, the bright backdrop for a timeless Shaker-style collection of units that sweep around to the fireplace found in the chimney breast. The kitchen could become a sociable eat-in kitchen if the island unit was replaced with a table and chairs. The kitchen leads to the utility room which has a door out to the garden.

There's a third reception room that has been labelled as a 'breakfast room' with dual ceiling roses and a beast of a log burner in the chimney. It too oozes character and it can really be as versatile a space as you need - office, study, playroom or teenagers' den - the choices are varied.

The ground floor also offers a cloakroom and a cellar room which is not a dark and dingy space but rather surprisingly fitted with a carpet, a radiator and a double glazed window.

Up the grand staircase and it's worth looking up as you go, as at the top of the stairwell the high ceiling boasts a beautiful and original Victorian stained glass window that adds an extra layer of charm to the area.

Into the master bedroom and of course it's the one with the tower, surely a perfect place to position a dressing table, bathed in 180-degree light from the chorus of windows that sing with the views as well as the light they flood the tower with. There's a feature fireplace in this spacious room and bedroom two can also boast a fireplace, as well as delightful built-in storage either side.

The house has four large bedrooms in total, as well as two spacious and bright bathrooms, all found on this first floor. Finally it's worth exploring the attic spaces, access to which is found via a door in the further bedroom which is a fairly unique space as it also has direct access to a smaller room that would be a perfect dressing room.

But the room can also make use of a surprise addition up on this first floor level - a kitchenette with useful electrical sockets for fridge and microwave, as well as a sink, perfect for early morning coffee or midnight snack without wandering down to the kitchen half asleep.

The attic space is two main rooms although one has been partitioned off to provide a third room. The estate agent states what most people are wondering - that with the necessary permissions, these three rooms would lend themselves perfectly for conversion to further bedrooms, an office space or granny annexe.
