Travellers heading to this beautiful European city have been warned to abide by new clothing rules, or else they could be faced with a large fine.
Split is the second-largest city of Croatia, the largest city in Dalmatia and the largest city on the Croatian coast. It is located between mountains and sea.
It introduced a bylaw earlier this year stating that wearing bikinis and going shirtless is banned in the historic city centre. It comes after Dubrovnik introduced the same ban a few years ago, reports MyLondon.

Split City Council adopted the bylaw which will allow anyone wearing a bikini or no top with a penalty, according to CroatiaWeek. The council published the decision on its website back in February, affecting tourists as well as locals during the summer.
The announcement read: “Inside Zone A (cultural-historical centre) it is forbidden to be in a bathing suit, underwear or no clothes in a public space.” A number of community wardens patrol the area to lookout for anyone breaking the rules and people who are caught will be faced with a 150 euro (£128.38) fine.
There are also a number of other restrictions in place which also result in fines, such as drinking alcohol in public and walking dogs without a leash. The fine for drinking in public is 150 euros (£128.38), and for walking a dog without a leash is 66.36 euros (£56.79).
Attractions
There are so many beautiful attractions in Split that it would be impossible to name them all but there are a few that are a must for anyone visiting the city. Make sure you have the historic Palazzo di Diocleziano, Cathedral of Saint Domnius, sprawling Marjan Park, Riva Harbour, and Klis Fortress on your list.
There are also a number of museums, including the Games of Thrones Museum dedicated to all things Westeros. You can also book onto a Game Of Thrones tour which will take you through and around the city to check out the spots featured in the much-loved HBO series.
Beaches
Being located on the Dalmatian Coast has its perks, namely a number of beaches to relax on. Its top-rated spots are Kasuni Beach, Žnjan City Beach and Bene Beach. Kasuni is considered a good alternative to the busier and popular Bacvice Beach.
Food & drink
Split is located in Dalmatia, a region in Croatia that has its own type of food, heavily influenced by Italian cuisine. Typical foods and dishes found in Split range from seafood to a number of meat dishes, as well as fresh vegetables and some delicious pastries.
Specialities include Traditional Peka - a slow cooked dish under an iron bell surrounded with fire, Black Risotto - made out of squid and the squid ink that gives in the black colour, Škampi na buzaru - which translates to ‘shrimp stew’ and Pašticada with gnocchi - stewed beef cooked in a special dalmatian sauce.
Split’s top rated restaurant on Tripadvisor is Mediterranean wine bar FANTAŽIJA kitchen & wine , boasting a perfect five stars and is a recipient of the site’s Travellers’ Choice Awards. Dishes include ‘Arambaši’ (Dalmatian Zagora, similar to a cabbage roll, local delicacy protected as an item on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list); Scampi Buzara (fresh langoustines on a traditional red buzara sauce with homemade pasta); and Beefsteak ‘Pašticada’ (aged Croatian beef with pašticada sauce with grilled grapes and potato pave).
How to get there
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, only indirect flights. However, Manchester Airport offers direct flights to Split via Jet2.com, TUI and easyjet meaning you can reach Split in less than three hours.
