Beautiful dog who steals hearts is waiting for someone special to claim his

A beautiful dog with a sweet personality is waiting for a family of his own to fall in love with him. Toby the nine-year-old border collie cross is currently being homed at Dogs Trust Glasgow while he awaits to be adopted - and hopes 2023 will be the year for him.

Staff at the centre say Toby has certainly stolen a few hearts and will be sad to see him go, but only want the best for him. Manager Sandra Downie told the Mirror : "Toby is a beautiful boy. When he goes to his new home he'd like to have someone around for most of the day to help him settle but once he's found his paws he'll be OK to be left for a couple of hours. We know with the right family he'll make a fantastic pet."

Toby loves to play with his ball at Dogs Trust (Dogs Trust)

Toby is a sensitive soul and likes to take his time to get to know you but once he does, you can't ask for a more enthusiastic greeting whenever he sees you.

He loves to play fetch and is a clever dog - he knows lots of tricks and will enjoy learning more with his new owners.

Toby would love a quiet home with patient owners who are willing to carry on with his training and although he'd like to be the only pet in the home, he could live with children aged 16 and over.

Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, cares for around 14,000 dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes every year at its 22 rehoming centres.

But last year was an exceptional year with the charity receiving a record number of calls from people having to face the heart-breaking decision to hand over their dog.

The charity is urging people to remember that 'A dog is for life, not just for Christmas' and is hoping that if people are considering welcoming a dog into their lives, they choose to adopt a homeless hound.

Operations director Adam Clowes says: "We will make sure that every dog in our care has a wonderful Christmas but unfortunately due to the increasing costs of everyday living, many dog owners are currently having to make very difficult decisions when it comes to caring for their dog.

"Our kennels are at capacity and we are concerned that as fewer people can afford to welcome a dog into their life, we will face a housing crisis for dogs in the coming months, which is a tragedy for both dogs and owners.

"We understand the pressures people are facing but we would encourage anyone that is looking for a four-legged friend to share their life with, to consider adopting one of our gorgeous dogs and give a dog in need another chance to be happy at the heart of a loving home."

If you think you could give Toby a new home this New Year, visit his rehoming page on Dogs Trust's website.
