Beautifect HeatSonic Cleansing Device review: does this heated tool fill the Clarisonic void?

A market once led by Clarisonic, electronic cleansing devices have had a storied history. Since the brand was shut down back in 2020, Foreo has been leading the charge, but there’s a new brand coming for its crown. Beautifect has just entered the beauty tech ring with a unique and innovative piece of kit: the HeatSonic.

Founded by Dr Tara Lalvani back in 2017, Beautifect is on a mission to streamline and elevate beauty routines for all those who participate – whether it be a simple skin prep in the form of cleansing and moisturising, a 27-step Korean skincare extravaganza, or a full-blown glam session.

As a practising dentist for over 10 years and a busy mum of two, Tara was desperate to clean up her home beauty kit, which led to the production of Beautifect’s original hero product, the Beautifect Box. Since then, the brand has produced an array of matching baby pink accessories, none more exciting than the HeatSonic.

When the Clarisonic was first launched in 2001, the vibrational cleansing device was an instant heat among beauty and skincare enthusiasts. It promised and delivered deep-pore cleansing for an unbeatably clean skin feeling and glowing complexion. As such, the device’s discontinuation came as a shock to long-time fans of the decades-old product.

Skin-safe silicone saviour Foreo began offering the cult-favourite Foreo Luna cleansing device in 2013, which arguably helped soften the blow of the downfall of the Clarisonic. Consumers preferred the highly portable, waterproof and value-for-money device which doesn’t require replacement bristles.

Though Foreo has since produced a range of innovative oscillating and microcurrent-powered cleansing and toning devices (including options with built-in LED lights and thermo-cleansing capabilities), Beautifect is the first to come up with a gadget which reaches 42ºC in approximately 30 seconds.

It’s also considerably less expensive than its Foreo counterpart, with the Beautifect HeatSonic costing £129 and the Foreo Luna 4 retailing for an eye-watering £269. We put the newest value-for-money thermo-cleansing device to the test. Keep scrolling for an in-depth review.

Design

After trying inexpensive oscillating cleansing device dupes from the likes of Amazon, when I finally opened the Beautifect HeatSonic, I instantly understood why these previous, wallet-saving options had done nothing for my skin. Ergonomically designed to fit into the palm of the hand while also being able to stand steadily on the surface of the sink, the HeatSonic is a delightfully compact and aesthetically pleasing gadget which is soft to the touch.

My absolute favourite feature is the included carry case, which makes so much sense that I can’t comprehend why other brands hadn’t already thought of it. It’s compact and keeps the cleansing device perfectly clean while travelling, and also has a handy loop feature on which the miniature USB-C charging cable can be looped. As someone who is constantly losing and confusing cables, I loved that I could have case, device and cable together at all times.

Functionality

The HeatSonic has three different settings, which can be customised to either deliver thermo-cleansing or simply oscillate without heating up. I tried all three settings and found them to be entirely unnecessary.

It was only with the first, seemingly gentlest setting that I actually felt any vibrational, oscillating effects on my skin. The other two settings were too harsh and powerful to the point where the device seemed to be vibrating far too hard to work with the skin in any capacity.

Nevertheless, that first heated setting is absolutely fantastic. I began by wetting my face and applying cleanser before using the HeatSonic on my skin with small circular motions. It left my skin feeling strangely tingly, just as it would after a professional facial.

I instantly felt that my skin had become more supple, and that lovely tingly feeling was evidence that the blood vessels in my face had been stimulated. I dried my face and followed up with a serum and moisturiser and noticed an evident shift in my complexion from tired and grey to – believe it or not – subtly glowy.

Verdict

Beautifect HeatSonic

The HeatSonic by Beautifect is a deceptively powerful and wonderfully effective, palm-sized cleansing device.

With the help of stimulating oscillation which is delivered at a range of between 10,000 to 15,000 RPM, the vibrating cleansing gadget allows silicone bristles to gently work your favourite cleanser into the skin without overly exfoliating or damaging the skin barrier.

Thermal technology heats up the device to an optimal cleansing temperature of 42°C in approximately 30 seconds, a feature which works together with those stimulating oscillations to boost blood circulation and help to provide an all-over healthy glow. Applying cleanser with this brilliant little device helps to effortlessly remove a day’s worth of build-up to reveal a silky-smooth, surprisingly bright complexion beneath.

The HeatSonic, unlike its competitors, also comes with a brilliant matching magnetic travel case so that you never have to worry about the beauty-safe silicone gadget getting lost and dirty in the bottom of your travel bag.
