Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were 'banned ' from seeing their cousins after a comment about Princess Diana, it has been claimed.
But after Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson divorced in 1996, their two daughters were not allowed to see some of their relatives.
Author Tina Brown claims in her book, The Palace Papers, Fergie's offspring were 'banished' from hanging out with their two cousins.
Brown says after a falling out with Sara, the two princesses were restricted from seeing Prince William and Harry.
MyLondon reports the banishment was because Princess Diana allegedly 'fatwa'd' her sister in law, all "for revealing she had developed verrucae after borrowing Diana’s shoes."
The royal biographer says in Woman and Home it is one of the many examples where Princess Diana had developed a habit of "cutting out people," in the boys' lives.
She writes that the pattern continued, "throughout their childhood" and even included their own cousins Beatrice and Eugenie.
The author adds in her book that despite Princess Diana clearly being devoted to her two boys, "there was a destructive side to Diana’s mothering."
Since 1996, the two royal princesses have experienced a roller-coaster of losses and scandals.
It is reported that their relationship with Prince William is 'struggling' due to the allegations against their father, Prince Andrew.
Elsewhere, Princess Eugenie's son, August, made his first public appearance during the Platinum Jubilee.
The one-year-old joined his parents on the final day of celebrations as they watched the Jubilee Pageant.
The Mirror reported Eugenie shared a sweet photo of her sister Beatrice to mark her birthday on Tuesday.
Posting on Instagram of the two of them, she left a touching caption: "Happy Birthday to my special big sissy. Love you so much."
The first image showed Beatrice with wavy hair wearing a cream tweed blazer and resting her head against Eugenie who is sporting a blouse with a frilly lace collar and a chunky ornate headband.
Another picture shows the daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson dressed elegantly while smiling at each other.
The picture gallery was shared with Eugenie's 1.6 million followers and was liked by more than 100,000 times since it was posted on Monday.
Beatrice's husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi also got in on the act, as he posted a photo of his wife smiling on a boat with her hair blowing in the wind.
The interior designer and property developer captioned the picture with a single red love heart emoji and wrote: "You are the world's best wife. Along with this, you are the best mother in the world.
"We love you so very much. Happy birthday my darling."
