Bears WR David Moore arrested on drug and weapon charges

When the Chicago Bears broke for the summer ahead of training camp, head coach Matt Eberflus’ message was simple: Come back in shape and stay safe this summer.

Unfortunately, that message hasn’t resonated with everyone as wide receiver David Moore was arrested in Texas on drug and weapon charges on July 4, according to local Texas outlet KXII.

Per the outlet, Moore posted a $5,000 bond and was released from Cooke County Jail on Monday.

This offseason, Moore signed a one-year deal with the Bears after spending last year with the Packers and Broncos as a primarily special teams contributor. Moore, a former seventh-round pick by Seattle, found success early in his career. From 2018-20, Moore logged 1,163 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns with the Seahawks. Now with Chicago, Moore was competing for a valuable roster spot in an unproven wide receiver room.

Moore is the third Bears player to be arrested this offseason — all new additions to the roster. Wide receiver Byron Pringle was charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended license in late April. Most recently, linebacker Matthew Adams was arrested and charged with weapons offenses.

The Bears have yet to comment on Moore’s arrest.
