Bears view Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards as long-term contributors

The Chicago Bears overhauled their linebacker group with the additions of Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards in free agency.

Edmunds was general manager Ryan Poles’ biggest acquisition, signing him to a four-year deal worth $72 million (with $50 million guaranteed). Meanwhile, Edwards was an absolute steal, who earned a three-year, $19.5 million deal (with $7.9 million guaranteed).

Bears coach Matt Eberflus views Edmunds and Edwards as players who will be impact contributors for this team for quite some time.

“A guy like T.J. and a guy like Tre, those guys are young,” Eberflus said, via The Athletic. “We’re excited about where they are. And they’ve produced in the league, so it’s a known commodity. Those guys are players in this league.”

The Bears were able to address a position of need at linebacker in free agency, which allows them to focus on other needs heading into the NFL draft, including the defensive and offensive lines.

“Where we thought the draft was this year … I thought that was a great move to take those guys (Edmunds, Edwards) where we got them,” Eberflus said. “Those guys are going to be valuable assets for our team for a long time.”
