The Chicago Bears are sitting in a prime position at No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL draft, which gives general manager Ryan Poles plenty of leverage heading into the pre-draft process.
Considering the Bears found their quarterback in Justin Fields, Poles will likely look to rack up additional draft capital to trade the top pick. And with the number of teams looking to a quarterback — where Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Kentucky’s Will Levis available — there should be no shortage of suitors.
In The 33rd Team‘s latest mock draft, the Bears absolutely clean up as they trade back twice — in the top two picks. First, they trade with the Texans (who move up one spot to nab Alabama quarterback Bryce Young). But the fun doesn’t stop there. Next, the Colts move up from No. 4 to No. 2 to select Kentucky quarterback Will Levis.
After all of that, the Bears still manage to land a generational talent on defense in Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. at No. 4 overall.
Chicago has built up a stockpile of additional selections by trading down twice, and the Bears still get the guy they would have taken at No. 1 in Anderson.
It’s the absolute best-case scenario for the Bears, where they manage to trade back twice (and secure a boatload of picks) while still getting to land one of the top prospects in the draft inside the top five.
