New York Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey remains a heavily sought-after assistant as several teams begin to hire new head coaches and assemble coaching staffs.
McGaughey will interview with the Chicago Bears this weekend for their special teams coordinator role, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. The Bears recently hired Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as their new head coach.
McGaughey recently interviewed for the special teams job with the Los Angeles Chargers and it is still possible he remains here in New York with the Giants under new head coach Brian Daboll.
Special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey is scheduled to interview with the Bears on Sunday, per source. He already interviewed with the Chargers and the Giants still remain an option.

McGaughey has been the Giants’ special teams coordinator since 2018 when Pat Shurmur took over as the head coach. He remained after Shurmur was dismissed in 2020 and served the last two seasons on Joe Judge’s staff.
While the Giants had many struggles on both sides of the ball, the special teams unit was among the lone bright spots. McGaughey played a role in that so it’s no surprise he’s a hot commodity for other teams.
