Bears sign OL Corey Dublin and S Jon Alexander, waive 2 veterans

With the deadline for the first round of roster cuts just hours away, the Chicago Bears have made some roster moves.

The Bears have waived tight end Rysen John and linebacker Noah Dawkins. Normally, they would count toward those five cuts needed to get down to 85 players by 3 p.m. But Chicago also signed two players in their place: offensive lineman Corey Dublin and defensive back Jon Alexander.

Dublin, an undrafted rookie out of Tulane, has versatility at guard and center. He also had a minicamp tryout with the Bears back in May. Alexander signed as an undrafted rookie with the Bears this spring and was waived earlier this month. Now, he’s back in Chicago.

With injuries at tight end, John saw increased reps and even worked with the starters. But it appears he wasn’t long for the roster. Meanwhile, Dawkins had been dealing with an injury, and he faced an uphill battle to win a roster spot at linebacker.

The Bears need to trim their roster from to 85 players by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. So far, Chicago has waived undrafted rookie defensive end Carson Taylor (with no corresponding roster move).
