Bears QB Justin Fields ‘progressing,’ remains week-to-week

Bears quarterback Justin Fields will miss his second straight game as he deals with a right thumb injury suffered in a Week 6 loss to the Vikings.

Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters Wednesday that Fields is improving and remains “week-to-week.”

“He’s doing everything he can to progress, and it is progressing,” Eberflus said.

The belief remains Fields will be able to avoid surgery and a stint on injured reserve, which would keep him out for a minimum of four games. Eberflus said grip strength is an important factor for Fields’ progress before they begin testing his pain tolerance.

With Fields sidelined, it’ll be undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent making his second NFL start. Bagent led the Bears to a 30-12 victory over the Raiders in his first career start last Sunday.
