Bears QB Justin Fields on how to keep momentum going on offense

The Chicago Bears offense has found its groove over the past two games, where they’ve averaging 34 points per game and have finally unlocked the passing game.

One area where the offense has thrived has been explosive plays. The Bears have the third-most explosive plays (20 yards or more) in the NFL with 25. Over the past two weeks, Chicago has 12 explosive plays in the passing game.

Quarterback Justin Fields spoke to the importance of those explosive plays helping shorten the field and getting the momentum going.

“It gets us in a rhythm, of course it gets the momentum going,” Fields said. “It’s always positive to have those big chunks.”

It took a few weeks for the offense to finally start firing on all cylinders, as they’ve now notched back-to-back strong performances in the month of October.

“We knew that we could do it the whole time,” Fields said. “I think at this point it’s keeping it going and putting up the same amount of points and being as efficient as we’ve been the last two weeks.”

So what’s the key to maintaining that efficiency and momentum heading into Week 6 and beyond? Staying locked in from the first quarter through the fourth quarter.

“I can do better in the second half with staying locked in and keeping all the guys locked in and putting up the same amount of points we do in the first half,” Fields said. “I think that’s the next step as an offense, is just keeping our foot on the gas and not letting up and keep putting up points.

“It’s a long process, but of course, we’ve worked through it and we’ve grown and gotten better every week. Just looking to keep growing and keep growing in the right direction.”
