Bears plan to interview former Seahawks HC Pete Carroll

Over half of the league is staying at home for the playoffs, but that does not stop them from remaining active. Such is the case for the Chicago Bears, who are once again searching for a new head coach after yet another disappointing season. It was reported in late December that former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was interested in the job, and it appears the interest is mutual.

It is now being reported Carroll will receive an interview for the job on Thursday.

When Carroll was relieved of his coaching duties last season, it was announced by owner Jody Allen that his role would “evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor.” However, ESPN’s Brady Henderson is reporting that Carroll’s contract with the Seahawks organization is complete, which makes him essentially a free agent to do as he pleases with his career.

Pete Carroll has a career NFL record of 181-131-1, including the playoffs where he is 11-11 with two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl ring. Carroll’s strengths come in the form of creating a winning culture and establishing stability, two things the Bears have lacked for years now. Hiring Carroll may be a bit unconventional, but perhaps it is exactly what Chicago needs.
