Bears LB Jack Sanborn recognized as top rookie in Week 10

Bears rookie linebacker Jack Sanborn is garnering national recognition after his impressive performance in Sunday’s 31-30 loss to the Lions.

Sanborn, in his second NFL start, led the Bears with 12 tackles, including two for a loss, two sacks and two QB hits. And his stat line could’ve been even more impressive. He also had an interception negated by a penalty. While the interception didn’t count, he still made the play.

Good Morning Football’s Peter Schrager named Sanborn one of his “Fabulous Five” rookies from Week 10. Sanborn clocked in at No. 4, where Schrager was singing praises for the undrafted rookie.

After trading star linebacker Roquan Smith, Sanborn got his starting opportunity at middle linebacker, and he’s making the most of it.

“If you go all the way back to preseason, we saw what kind of player he was,” coach Matt Eberflus said. “He’s very instinctual, he makes a lot of plays on the ball, always reads his keys, he’s always on it in that way. So we’re pleased with where he’s going.”

There hasn’t been a lot to love about this struggling defense. But the emergence of Sanborn has been one of the bright spots.
