Bears’ Justin Fields explains why he’s excited to play with DJ Moore

It’s been a busy offseason for the Chicago Bears, who have continued retooling the roster following a 3-14 season.

One of the focal points for general manager Ryan Poles has been building around third-year quarterback Justin Fields, whether that was upgrading his supporting cast or offensive line.

The biggest offseason addition was wide receiver DJ Moore, acquired in a trade of the No. 1 pick from the Carolina Panthers. Moore gives Fields a bonafide No. 1 wide receiver that he’s been lacking.

“I’ve known DJ for a little bit now,” Fields said, via ChicagoBears.com. “I can tell he loves the game, he’s a hard-worker and, of course, he’s talented. He’s proven that over the past few years playing with the Panthers. So, it’s great to have him; another weapon to add to our offense. He’s going to bring a lot of energy, a lot of leadership to the room. Everybody’s excited to have him, so it’s going to be fun.”

For Fields, it’s important to develop a rapport with his teammates, and that includes his new No. 1 wide receiver.

When Moore was traded to the Bears, Fields went to dinner with him and his family on their first night in Chicago. Soon after, Fields attended a Chicago Bulls game with Moore and receivers Chase Claypool and Darnell Mooney.

“I think it’s important, being the quarterback, for me to build that camaraderie with everyone,” Fields said. “(Moore’s) first night here, I went out to eat with him and his family. That was cool to get to know him a little bit. We didn’t know each other that well at that point, but the more time we’ve spent with each other the more comfortable we’ve gotten around each other. He’s a great person and, of course, a great football player.”
