Bears hire Ian Cunningham as assistant GM

As Bears head coach Matt Eberflus continues to fill out his coaching staff, general manager Ryan Poles has added a key member to his front office.

The Bears announced they have hired Eagles director of player personnel Ian Cunningham as their new assistant GM. Cunningham is the first assistant GM in franchise history, and he’ll report to Poles.

Cunningham has 13 years of NFL experience, getting his start as a player personnel assistant with the Baltimore Ravens in 2008. He also served as an area scout for the Ravens before getting an opportunity as director of college scouting with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. Cunningham worked his way up to assistant director of players personnel and, most recently as this year, another promotion to director of player personnel.

Meanwhile, Eberflus is starting assemble his coaching staff. The Bears are expected to hire Packers passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy as offensive coordinator. Chicago is also targeting Colts safeties coach Alan Williams as defensive coordinator.

Eberflus is also bringing two more assistants with him from Indianapolis in linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi and cornerbacks coach James Rowe.
