It’s been a week from hell for the Chicago Bears.
The embarrassing performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was followed by uncertainty surrounding now-former defensive coordinator Alan Williams and Justin Fields hinted at coaching being a problem for the offense.

Here is one of the few positive plays from the day. The Bears seemed to realize that getting the ball to receiver DJ Moore is a good idea. Fields rips the ball over the middle to Moore who has a step on his man.

This just can’t happen.
One Mississippi, two Mississippi. Alright Justin, there’s a man open at the 40 yard line, rip it in.
Three Mississippi, four Mississippi. He’s still open, but pressure is getting there.
Five Missi- oh, he got sacked. You can’t stand idle in the pocket for five seconds with a man open and not expect bad things to happen.

This is just a bad read. Fields throws to a well-covered man who runs an out from the stack when the corner is wide open.
Play 5
More indecisiveness from the pocket. You can’t take a sack there. Throw it away and give your kicker a better chance at a field goal.

This was actually a really good throw. Fields ripped it in to Chase Claypool in the end zone before the backside defensive back could get over to make a play on the ball.

This is just bad. Falling away on the screen pass in a crowded area in your own end zone- not many other results that you’ll get from that besides a pick six.
Bottom Line
Justin Fields’ play actively hurt the Bears over the first two weeks. We can talk about Luke Getsy being a bad offensive coordinator, and that’s fine- he is. However, Fields shoulders some blame here, too. He needs to be better. Plain and simple.
