The Chicago Bears are in the middle of their search for a new head coach and general manager, and they’ve already secured a second interview with one candidate.
The expectation was that the Bears were going to hire a GM before a head coach. So it was a surprise to see that Chairman George McCaskey and his hiring crew have scheduled a second interview with Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus for their coaching vacancy.
Bears fans had a lot to say about Eberflus being a finalist for the Bears’ head coach job, starting with the fact that ownership has already scheduled a second interview with a head coach candidate before a GM candidate.
There are also questions about Eberflus’ ability to get the right coach in place to develop quarterback Justin Fields, but that was always going to be the focus for any defensive-minded coaching candidate.
While Eberflus has landed a second interview, that doesn’t mean he’s getting the job. But he is a finalist, which means the Bears think enough of him to ask for a second, in-person interview next week.
