There is no rock bottom for the Chicago Bears. There is only a pit of despair that is never-ending. The Bears suffered perhaps their worst loss in franchise history when they blew a 21-point lead to the Denver Broncos, losing 31-28 to remain winless at 0-4.
This game was all Bears for the first three quarters. Chicago was up 28-7 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter, but allowed the Broncos back in the game with soft defense, costly turnovers, and a coaching decision that deserves to be enshrined in the Hall of Shame. On 4th and short just outside of the red zone with the game tied, the Bears opted to go for the kill instead of taking the field goal and burned a timeout in the process. They were stopped short, and Denver responded with a field goal to take the lead. Justin Fields’ lone interception of the game on the final drive sealed the game.
All of this happened despite Fields throwing four touchdowns, three of which came in the first half. But what should have been an easy win is now a crushing loss that has fans wondering how head coach Matt Eberflus keeps his job going forward.
Here is what Bears fans are saying on social media following the loss.
As bad as any I can remember. To have that lead, against that team at home and lose is inexcusable!! I can’t get over how clunky the procedure was on the 4th down play. It’s a fireable offense when you’re 3-17. Not the decision to go, but the entire process was flawed. #Bears

That is one of the worst coaching decisions I have ever seen.

4th and 1 you don’t take the field goal
2nd half you take the ball out of the best player’s hand when he’s having the game of his life
fire eberflus and fire getsy. INEXCUSABLE

The Bears blowing this game, despite the franchise record-setting performance from Justin Fields, feels like the kind of game that would justify the team firing a head coach in-season for the first time in team history
Still don't think they would actually do it, but… come on

Matt Eberflus needs to be dismissed immediately
Losing a game they led by 21 is inexcusable

When are we supposed to be taking the North and never giving it back again? Asking for a lot of us

Is that the worst loss in Bears history in games they should have won?
Statistically it ties for the worst loss up by 21. It happened before in both 2002 and 1953.

Fields is probably not the guy but you guys need to get out of your biases.
Game was not on him. Both turnovers were not his fault and the coaches fucked up on the fourth down.
Poles needs to take this presser and say they’re firing flus

Today I’ll cancel NFL Sunday Ticket because I never want to view this abysmal team again (until the mccaskey family is removed from the picture)

Fire Luke Getsy and Matt Eberflus, now

No QB will change this team until the organization guts the rot, and hires people who are experienced and knows what they're doing. Justin had the greatest game of his life and they still lost. And that sentence is not shocking to hear at all

#DaBears aren’t going to Improve until Matt Eberflus gets fired.

Matt Eberflus is the worst coach or manager in Chicago sports history. There is not even a close second.

Matt Eberflus has earned whatever happens to him in Chicago. He’s worked hard for his fate. I am disgusted. #Bears

A coach cannot survive that. The Matt Eberflus era is over, whether or not the #Bears choose to acknowledge it.

we have an unfortunately reality:
Justin Fields cannot deliver in the 4th quarter. he's had SO many chances and every. single. time. he makes a critical error

hmmmm is Eberflus just really the pic.twitter.com/rladzeA6GU

That 4th quarter was a microcosm of Fields' career in Chicago. The Bears set him up to fail, and lo and behold, he failed.
The glimpses from him remain so tantalizing, but he's not progressing enough. Maybe he makes it work somewhere else, but that ship has sailed in Chicago.

Stand up and say this is unacceptable.
0-4 is unacceptable.
14 in a row is unacceptable.
9 in a row at home is unacceptable.
Blowing a 3TD lead is unacceptable.

Matt Eberflus should be unemployed this afternoon.
