Bears’ Chase Claypool Honest on Whether Team’s Offense Shows His ‘Best’

After a week of drama surrounding quarterback Justin Fields, the Bears added another chapter to the saga on Friday courtesy of critical comments from receiver Chase Claypool regarding the offense.

With Chicago winless entering Week 4, Claypool voiced his frustrations when asked by ESPN’s Courtney Cronin whether he’s been utilized in a way that allows him to show “the best of what you can do.” Claypool, initially, appeared hesitant to answer the question, only to then offer a brutally honest take that echoed teammate DJ Moore’s viral hot-mic moment from Week 2.

“Hmmm, no,” Claypool said as he shook his head and moved on to the next question.

Claypool, who was acquired from the Steelers last November, has struggled as part of a rebuilding offense since joining the team, a trend that has continued in 2023. Through three games, the 25-year-old has caught three of his 10 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Given the timing, Claypool’s remark will likely go down as more, unwanted fodder tossed in the growing dumpster fire the Fields-led unit has quickly come to be characterized as in the media amid the rough start. The Bears (0–3), after getting outscored, 47 to 106, in Weeks 1-3, will look to continue sorting through their dysfunction against the equally hapless Broncos (0–3) on Sunday.
