Bears CB Kyler Gordon underwent surgery for broken hand

Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon underwent surgery for a broken hand suffered in last Sunday’s loss to the Packers, head coach Matt Eberflus shared.

Gordon was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, which means he’ll miss at least the next four games (Buccaneers, Chiefs, Broncos and Commanders). Gordon is eligible to return in Week 6 against the Vikings.

“We’re anticipating if all things go well, he can be back after Washington,” Eberflus said. “We’ll keep him in our prayers and all that. We visited earlier and his teammates have been talking to him, and he’s in a good spot, mentally, right now with that.”

With Gordon sidelined for at least the next month, the Bears secondary is without one of its best players. Now, the question becomes who will take Gordon’s spot at nickel cornerback Sunday against the Buccaneers, especially with Josh Blackwell doubtful to play with a hamstring injury.

“When you have a guy like ‘Spidey’ (Gordon) go down, you know he’s a good player,” Eberflus said. “We’re certainly going to miss him. But what you do is you try to do the best with your roster. In [Greg Stroman Jr. and Blackwell], we’re going to see where it is, and those guys have been with us, so they know the system. They know how to play and they’ve played in there before, so we feel good about it.”

So who’s replacing Gordon? To be determined.
