The Chicago Bears have established their team captains for the 2023 NFL season.
The Bears took a team vote for the four permanent captains for the season, which head coach Matt Eberflus announced during his Thursday press conference. Those captains are quarterback Justin Fields, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, wide receiver DJ Moore and safety Eddie Jackson.
Two offensive players and two defensive players make up the four permanent captains going into the 2023 season. Eberflus said there will be one honorary captain each week, similar to last season.
“The first rule of leadership is leading yourself,” Eberflus said. “Everybody’s a leader. We need leadership in every room from the first guy to the last guy. And we need discipline and habits have to be right. We have to do a great job of leading and following. Sometimes you take the lead and sometimes you also have to listen and follow who’s in front. That’s important that we do that as a group.”

No word yet on the honorary captain for the Week 1 opener against the Green Bay Packers.
