The Chicago Bears returned to the practice field for their third practice of training camp on Saturday, which marked the second open workout of camp.
There was plenty to learn from the media and fans in attendance, who shared some highlights and videos from the fourth practice. In what will come as no surprise, wide receiver DJ Moore continued to steal the show with some impressive catches. There were also some notable injury updates, including what appeared to be a veteran rest day for safety Eddie Jackson.
Here’s a quick roundup of the highlights and notes from Day 4 of Bears training camp:

Eddie Jackson not practicing
We’re well into individual drills at Bears training camp today and haven’t seen Eddie Jackson on the field.
— Alex Shapiro (@AlexShapiroNBCS) July 29, 2023
Eddie Jackson is now on the practice field but not participating. Perhaps a veteran’s day.

Cody Whitehair suffered apparent injury, but returned
Good news: Cody is back for what looks like the final period of practice.

Dylan Cole back at practice
LB Dylan Cole is back on the practice field today which means fully healthy roster with the exception of Dante Pettis on the non football injury list.
And Eddie Jackson is not out on the practice field but no word on his status as of yet.

1-on-1 recap
Bears ran some OL/DL 1-on-1s today.
Notable reps:
Darnell Wright got the better of Rasheem Green twice.
Justin Jones cooked Nate Davis
Braxton Jones withstood a bull rush from DeMarcus Walker on first rep, but Walker got Jones on the second rep.
— Alex Shapiro (@AlexShapiroNBCS) July 29, 2023
Good 1 on 1 red one for the offense.
Nice plays by DJ Moore Velus Jones and Tyler Scott and Robert Tonyan.
This team will have MANY options in the red zone this year. #DaBears #Bears #ChicagoBears
— Clay Harbor (@clayharbs82) July 29, 2023
Bears are working on 1 on 1s. No pads.
Darnell Wright won both of his reps against Radheem Green.
Teven Jenkins won both of his reps against Gervon Dexter Sr.
Braxton Jones won the first rep vs. DeMarcus Walker. Walker won the second rep and threw Jones to the ground.

Red zone recap
During red zone, Justin Fields had a couple nice TD throws. One was a great grab by Cole Kmet, who just barely kept his feet in bounds. Another went to Velus Jones Jr. over the middle.

Deep throws into the net
The Deep Throw Into A Net drill is back at Halas Hall.
It looks tough and there are way more misses than makes.
But Justin Fields just hit two in a row, which drew cheers from the crowd.
Tyson Bagent and Nathan Peterman have each put one ball in the net, too

Fields to Tonyan again for another touchdown
Def think the Bears will use him in the redzone a lot this year

Offense thrives in two-minute drill
Absolutely PERFECT Two minute drill for the offense.
Fields starts w a screen to EQ for 10 scrambles for 10 then hits DJ for 15 then down the middle to Kmet for 15 then a TD to EQ.
A thing of beauty #DaBears #Bears
— Clay Harbor (@clayharbs82) July 29, 2023
Justin Fields just took the offense down to score in a situational drill. Big plays to DJ Moore and Cole Kmet. Both were in the middle of the field. Then Fields ended the drive with a touchdown to Equanimeous St. Brown with a throw in the middle of the defense.
— Nicholas Moreano (@NicholasMoreano) July 29, 2023
First team offense ends with three straight completions to Moore, Kmet and St. Brown (TD) during 2 minute drill.

Justin Fields and DJ Moore had the play of the day...again
Some context on the Fields-Moore TD, which was probably the best play we saw from the red zone period. Similar to the one from Wednesday's practice, Fields placed the ball where only Moore could get it. Really good coverage from Gordon, not sure what more he could have done. https://t.co/UWYnbfwkps

7-on-7 recap
7-on-7 drills had two INTs — Adrian Colbert dove in front of a Justin Fields pass to Cole Kmet, and Greg Stroman had a pick-6 of P.J. Walker.
But Fields ended it with a dart to DJ Moore for a TD ahead of a diving Kyler Gordon, who had tight coverage. Impressive precision.
— Kevin Fishbain (@kfishbain) July 29, 2023
Justin Fields made a pinpoint throw to DJ Moore for a score in 7-on-7 red zone action. Pass was completed just beyond diving reach of CB Kyler Gordon.
Before that, S Adrian Colbet picked off a toss for Cole Kmet after Fields held the ball for a long time. Big effort by Colbert.
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) July 29, 2023
Also should note CB Greg Stroman had, I believe, his second interception of camp. Picked off PJ Walker. Lot of action for TE Robert Tonyan in the red zone, not surprising consider the offense has 2 big targets to utilize near the goalline.
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) July 29, 2023
In 7-on7 work, Justin Fields tossed a dime to DJ Moore for a TD just out of the reach of a diving Kyler Gordon.
Fields was also picked off by Adrian Colbert on a pass ticketed for Cole Kmet.
Greg Stroman picked off PJ Walker on a pass intended for Tyler Scott.

Red zone, take two
Red Zone drills start with a QB scamper and a bubble screen to DJ Moore.
Another slow day of practice so far. We'll see how it finishes.
— Greg Braggs Jr. (@GBraggsJr23) July 29, 2023
Red Zone session has been FUN!
Fields with an easy scamper to the right side on one play for a TD.
Then a play action boot where Robert Tonyan is wide open in the flat on the right side for a wall in TD.
— Greg Braggs Jr. (@GBraggsJr23) July 29, 2023
Adrian Colbert with an interception of Justin Fields on a scramble throw. Both Fields picks at camp the last 2 days have come in these scramble drills. #BNBearsCamp
— Funky Cold Luda (Taylor’s Version) (@lcm1986) July 29, 2023
DB Greg Stroman Jr. jumped a route and picked off PJ Walker in the red zone. Stroman ran through a crowd of offensive players chilling behind the play and ran it all the way to the far end zone.
— Sean Hammond (@sean_hammond) July 29, 2023
The most successful plays in the red zone so far have almost all been to the right side with crossing patterns in the flat.
Back to back TDs for DJ Moore and Robert Tonyan who essentially both walked in.
Looks like their bread and butter to this point of camp.
— Greg Braggs Jr. (@GBraggsJr23) July 29, 2023
Practice takeaways
– Ja'Tyre Carter and Lucas Patrick worked in with the 1st unit at RG in place of Nate Davis
– Lot of work for Elijah Hicks as Eddie Jackson was held out
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) July 29, 2023
— Terell Smith continues to get work in with the first-string defense opposite Jaylon Johnson
— Elijah Hicks got a lot of first team reps with Eddie Jackson resting
–Darnell Mooney continued his ramp up and participated in some of the team drills— Josh Schrock (@Schrock_And_Awe) July 29, 2023
Bears ran some red zone work today and both O and D had good moments.
In 11s, Justin Fields scored two TDs. First, everyone was covered so he ran it in himself. Second, found Robert Tonyan for wide open TD on play action rollout.

Bonus tweet:
The play of 7-on-7s was probably a throw from Fields to Moore for a TD.
Kyler Gordon played really solid defense and probably did all he could to stop a score.
But Fields threw a perfect ball and Moore reeled it in to beat Gordon.
— Alex Shapiro (@AlexShapiroNBCS) July 29, 2023
The Bears wrapped up practice on a humid morning in Lake Forest. There was plenty of focus on the red zone. Justin Fields had mixed results overall, including some sharp throws, and capped off the day in two-minute drills with three connections for a scoring drive.
— Chris Emma (@CEmma670) July 29, 2023
Top 3 Takeaways Day 5 Training Camp-
1- DJ Moore is the MVP of camp so far.
2- Chase Claypool could be getting a lot more targets.
3- Justin Fields was picked off by Adrian Colbert at the goal line. Fields thought Colbert was either out of bounds and or dropped it.
— Mark Carman (@thecarm) July 29, 2023
Also- Justin Fields did by far the most running with the football he has done thus far in camp. Found his way to the end zone as well as some big chunk plays.

Rookie Terell Smith continues to get his opportunities
Rookie cornerback Terrell Smith continued to see opportunities with the Bears’ defense. A player to follow throughout the preseason.
