Western United have strengthened their hopes of winning silverware in their debut A-League Women season by signing Angie Beard to a two-year deal.
The leftback, who was captain of Melbourne Victory in their 2021 grand final win, signs for the competition newcomers from Danish side Fortuna Hjorring.
Western, who sit second on goal difference, are undefeated in six starts to life as an ALW side and face their biggest test to date when they take on first-placed Sydney FC on Wednesday.
"The fact that Angie wanted to come here and the fact that we are able to go out and get her is another indication of our ambition in this competition," said Western coach Mark Torcaso.
"Angie has been a star in this league already, she's had big experience overseas and she is going to be a massive player for us and for our league."
Beard has won three Matildas caps but could yet turn out for Alen Stajcic's Philippines side at this year's World Cup after receiving an approach to switch her allegiance last year.
