Bear Necessities: Ryan Poles explains why he traded Robert Quinn

The Chicago Bears made a splash when they traded star pass rusher Robert Quinn to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2023 fourth-round pick.

It’s a move that made plenty of sense for a rebuilding team and a general manager in Ryan Poles looking to build through the NFL draft.

Poles explained exactly why he felt comfortable trading a defensive leader in Quinn, and it had to do with the play of the guys around him at defensive end — Trevis Gipson, Al-Quadin Muhammad and rookie Dominique Robinson.

“Yeah, like I said, I think the guys around him,” Poles said Wednesday, via NBC Sports Chicago. “I really do trust in [Trevis] Gipson, he’s had a good start to the season; [Al-Quadin] Muhammad, he’s brought intensity and toughness to that group; and even young [Dominique] Robinson has flashed, he tipped that ball that Roquan got the other day and has a promising future and I think he’s going to continue to trend upwards.”

While losing Quinn will have a big impact on this defense, one of the benefits will be getting extended looks at some young talents in Gipson and Robinson, who could very well be the future on defense.
