Bear necessities: Grade II listed house for rent on the street where Paddington was filmed in Primrose Hill

Paddington Bear may have taken home by the Brown Family to the fictional 32 Windsor Gardens, but it was a road in Primrose Hill that starred in the Paddington live-action films.

Chalcot Crescent is instantly recognisable, thanks to its ornate Italianate-style terraced houses, many of which are painted in different pastel colours.

The colourful curve of homes proved a winning backdrop for the winsome bear’s cinematic adventures, which are based on the original books by Michael Bond.

Each house on the street is Grade II listed – including the property that has become available to let.

The house on Chalcot Crescent is Crescent is available for just over £3,460 a week (Handout)

Arranged over four stories, the end-of-terrace house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, two of which are en-suite.

Along with the reception room and kitchen/diner, there’s a large family room that opens onto a glass extention and patio garden.

The home has been refurbished in a contemporary style with white walls and a sleek grey-toned kitchen. Period details include cornices and ceiling roses, and a fireplace in the living room.

At £15,000 a month the rent is five times the London average, and must be paid in pounds rather than marmalade sandwiches.

Available unfurnished, the rental is also pet-friendly.

Perfect for those who come with four-legged friends, although a stowaway bear from Peru may be pushing it when it comes to the terms of the lease.

Paddington Bear certainly wouldn’t get his deposit back, as the character is constantly up to accidental mischief.

In a comical scene from Paddington (2014) the eponymous bear, voiced by Ben Whishaw, is unfamiliar with human flooding an accidentally floods the bathroom and rides down the staircase in a bathtub.

The property is also a rare pet-friendly rental (Handout)

The first film in the Paddington live action trilogy starred Nicole Kidman as a villainous taxidermist, while Hugh Grant played an actor-turned-criminal baddie in Paddington 2 (2017).

Stars such as Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins will return in the final film, which began production in July and is due to be released in 2024.

However, the extent to which Chalcot Crescent will feature in the film is uncertain, as the title – Paddington in Peru – hints that the furry protagonist may be heading further afield than London.

Primrose Hill is a favourite of London celebrities. DJ Calvin Harris is thought to have bought a £7.5 million home in the area, which is also home to his ex girlfriend Rita Ora.

There were also rumours this summer that Kate Hudson had rented a Primrose Hill townhouse for £4,000 a week to be near her ex-husband, Muse’s Matt Bellamy, and the two children they share.

Chalcot Crescent is on the market with Knight Frank.
