Bear Grylls said it was a “privilege” to feed Prince George his first ant.

He told Good Morning Britain on Tuesday that the event happened in 2019 after Kate Middleton and son George competed against Grylls in the King’s Cup Regatta, a charity sailing race off the Isle of Wight. Grylls won the event.

Grylls appeared on Good Morning Britain to promote his new book, titled “Never Give Up,” and was asked about his celebrity encounters. Grylls, a survivalist, recounted the time he ate a fish that had been half-eaten by a bear with former President Barack Obama.

“You encouraged our future king to eat some ants, didn’t you?” asked host Susanna Reid.

Grylls explained that it was George’s grandmother Carole Middleton who asked him to speak to the then-six-year-old as he was a fan of Grylls and his show “You vs. Wild.”

“And so we were chatting, and he was down here, and just as we were chatting a stream of ants went across his feet, and him and me looked at them, he looked at me with those amazed wide eyes, and I said, ‘Come on we’ve got to eat one.’ And he said ‘Oh really?’”

“And we ate, and it was a privilege to give the future King his first ant,” Grylls said. “And his eyes lit up as they do with anyone when they’re out in the wild and they face a few fears and they overcome them, so good for him. What a little hero.”
