Beachgoers reduced to tears at heartbroken dog owner's touching gesture

Visitors to a beachside town were left in tears after noticing a touching gesture from someone whose dog had just passed away. People were being invited to help themselves to a free ball on Exmouth beach in Devon.

The do-gooder explained in a note that they'd recently lost the "goodest of good boys" and his favourite place had been Exmouth Beach where he enjoyed playing with his ball.

Along with the note was a large box filled with tennis balls. The note read: "Rex loved the beach, Rex loved the ball. Please feel free to take a ball for your dog and I hope you all enjoy this place as much as we did."

"Rex - sleep well, my ginger prince."

DevonLive reports that an additional note read: "The goodest of good boys."

Devon County Council posted a photo of the box and the note to Twitter. In the tweet they said: "A lovely gesture on Exmouth beach."

Reacting to the gesture, one person wrote: "So nice.. but so sad, thankyou Rex." Conservative MP for East Devon Simon Jupp said: "This is truly heartwarming."

A third person commented: "Lovely, and sad, in equal measures."

And a fourth wrote: "I’m not crying, you’re crying. On my way to scoop up my own favourite blonde boy to take him to the beach."
