Beach yoga session to take place in memory of Ashling Murphy

A yoga session on Portmarnock Beach will take place this Friday, January 21 at 7.30pm to help raise funds for Women's Aid and pay respect to Ashling Murphy.

Organised by Longford man Seanie Smyth, the event will welcome women for a safe and relaxing yoga session by the sea.

Seanie, who normally teaches yoga at Portmarnock Beach on Wednesday evenings, said that he wanted to provide a space where women could feel safe around men, saying that men "have to reassure" women after recent events.

He wrote on Instagram: "This will be a relaxing and restorative session to show appreciation towards our women."

Seanie previously raised over €3,500 for mental health charity Suicide to Survive through his yoga classes. The part time yoga teacher normally runs his sessions in the style of street buskers where people give whatever amount of money they can.

"Yoga is so accessible if you know the fundamentals," he told Dublin Live.

Ahead of Friday's yoga session in aid of Women's Aid, Seanie is asking those who plan on attending to donate to the GoFundMe page set up by swimming group Dublin Dippers.

The group held a vigil for Ashling last night on Portmarnock Beach, during which they raised €607 for Women's Aid.

They said: "The nation is in mourning.

"Thank you to everyone who turned up to walk 5km in the dark on a cold January night."

Yesterday, a man in his 30's was arrested on suspicion of the murder and is being held at Tullamore Garda station.

A second male in his 30's was arrested today in relation to the investigation.
