David was previously married to Dutch model Lara Stone and their marriage lasted five years with one child together, Alfred.
The couple first got together in 2009 and were engaged in 2010, when David proposed with a £100,000 Tiffany ring hidden in a burger.
They lived together in Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher's former home, complete with a recording studio, in north London.
In early 2015 David and Lara trialled a separation period as they had drifted apart and formerly divorced later that year.
The divorce was finalised within six weeks of filing for it but they spent 18 months in court fighting over their combined £19 million fortune.
David also changed his surname early on in his career when he joined the trade union Equity as there was already a member called David Williams.
The 50-year-old was born David Edward Williams and uses the last name Walliams as his stage name, which he has become very well known by.
He has often been questioned over his sexuality and in his book, Inside Little Britain, he said he did not like being labelled. In an interview with The Radio Times said that he falls in love with someone's soul, heart and brain.
The star has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has said has suffered from manic depression throughout his life.
David's first big role was in the BBC Two comedy Rock Profile, alongside Matt Lucas, before the pair shot to fame on their show Little Britain. From 2010 to 2011 they starred in their show Come Fly With Me.
David and Matt have had to apologise for racist character types and black face after Netflix, Britbox, NOW TV and BBC iPlayer dropped their programmes Little Britain and Come Fly With Me in 2020.
In both programmes David and Matt used black face and stereotypes to portray black, disabled, working-class, gay, and transgender people.
Both Matt and David issued the same apology to their Twitter, they said: "We have both spoken publicly in recent years of our regret that we played characters of other races. Once again we want to make it clear that it was wrong & we are very sorry."
In 2012, David joined Britain's Got Talent as a judge. Recently he has appeared on The Masked Dancer as a guest judge and The Wheel.
He is also a very successful children's author, releasing his first book The Boy in the Dress in 2008 to his most recent, Slime which was released in 2020. Many of his books have been turned into films or musicals.
David's episode of Who Do You Think You Are? is airing Monday, January, 17 on BBC One at 9pm.
