BBC weather forecasts wintry showers for Liverpool on Christmas Day

Liverpool could wake up to sleet on Christmas Day as temperatures plunge to two degrees.

Forecasters at BBC weather are predicting wintry showers for the city this Christmas with showers of sleet and a gentle breeze.

Merseyside has experienced a period of unsettled weather in recent weeks with the arrival of Storm Arwen and Storm Barra.

These wet and windy conditions are set to be replaced by colder temperatures in the run up to Christmas.

The BBC forecast for Monday to Wednesday said it "will begin to feel chillier through the week" with spells of sunshine expected.

On Saturday, December 25, the weather forecast shows sleet and a gentle breeze for Liverpool.

The sleet is forecast from 6am on Christmas morning before easing at around 9am and being replaced by light rain.

From around 6pm, the sleet is set to start again as temperatures reach lows of two degrees into the evening.

Met Office Expert Meteorologist, Dan Rudman, said: “There is still a lot of uncertainty in the forecast for the Christmas period.

"Whilst there is certainly a risk of wintry conditions for many places, other outcomes are still possible such as warmer air to move across the UK bringing rain widely with any potential snow being restricted to higher ground and the far north.

“We will continue to keep an eye on developments over the coming days and update as the level of certainty increases.”
