BBC Weather: Experts predict when sun will return to Bristol

BBC weather experts have predicted when the sun will return to Bristol this week.

After weeks of glorious sunshine and moaning about sticky nights and the price of fans, it has been a damp few days for the city.

Now meteorologists have given us a glimmer of hope that summer might not be over just yet, with a "tropical air mass" on course to arrive this month.

But before that, there could be a chance to poke your head out the door this week, as "plenty of sunny spells" are forecast today (Tuesday, August 3).

Today

According to the BBC's hour-by-hour forecast for today (Tuesday, August 3) temperatures are expected to climb to 20C.

You can look forward to sunny intervals from 9am, with a maximum 17 per cent chance of rain all day. The mercury will peak around 3pm, before dropping to a low of 14C overnight.

The BBC forecast said: "Any overnight rain will clear to leave a fine and dry morning with plenty of sunny spells. A few heavy and thundery showers will develop in the afternoon, but there also be some further sunshine."

Tomorrow

Despite a good start with fine weather, tomorrow (Wednesday, August 4), you will still need your umbrella.

The BBC forecast said: "Tomorrow, it will be another fine and dry start to the day with plenty of sunny spells. There will be further sunshine in the afternoon, but there may be a few isolated heavy showers."

Next week, beginning Monday, August 9, there may be some brief warm spells but the weather will be mostly unsettled, with "a lot of wet and windy days expected"

Outlook for August 16-29

By mid-month, we may feel a "tropical air mass" arrive in the south of England, the BBC outlook said.

It explained: "As high pressure slowly pushes northward from the Mediterranean Sea, low pressure systems caught in the storm track and driven by the jet stream will be deflected northward too.

"Drier weather should spread in from the south, and this will also bring in a warmer, more tropical air mass to the UK."

The expert forecast went to say that if the high pressure system lingers over the country, "a heatwave" could develop.

However, if low pressure prevails, August will be a cooler, wetter month than usual, the outlook added.
