BBC Waterloo Road cast unrecognisable ahead of show's return six years on

Some familiar faces of Waterloo Road will be returning to the BBC's school based drama at some point this year.

Adam Thomas, who plays Donte Charles in the show, has confirmed the news that the programme is definitely making a come back six years after the last series ended.

He reunited with fellow cast member Katie Griffiths who is returning as Chlo Charles.

The Emmerdale star shared a more up to date picture of them on his Instagram, as they were reading over their scripts for the new season as well as a throwback snap from their younger days when they originally starred on the show.

He captioned it: "The news is finally out!!!

"Donte and Chloe are back!! @kaytgriff

"@waterlooroad coming soon… @bbc @bbciplayer."

Fans were elated with the news as they took to the comments of the Instagram post to share their excitement.

Katy said: "Oh WOW!!!!!!! Congratulations @adamthomas21!!! I LOVE that show!!! This is amazing!! Well done."

Leah said: "I cannot wait!!!!!!"

Adam said: "This has made my Monday, thank you.. thank you.. thank you x"

Katie also confirmed the news on her own social media, as she also confirmed that Angela Griffin, who will reprise her role of Kim Campbell, will now be headteacher of the school.

She shared an image of the three actors reading through the scripts together as she wrote: "Big news! I'm going back to school!

"I'm so so excited to be returning to @waterlooroad reunited with @adamthomas21 and @theangelagriffin and loads of new faces yet to be revealed.

"Coming to @bbciplayer later this year. #waterlooroad"

It was announced in September that the BBC school-based series is returning after six years.

Waterloo Road last aired in March 2015, three years after they moved filming from Greater Manchester to Scotland.

But the BBC revealed that the new series of the award-winning Waterloo Road will be set and made in Greater Manchester once again.
