BBC viewers react to Sharon Horgan's 'brilliant' performance in harrowing drama

BBC viewers were blown away by Sharon Horgan's performance in the brand-new show, Best Interests.

Sharon, 52, starred in the four-part mini-series stars alongside Welsh actor Michael Sheen. The duo play a couple whose daughter, played by a young Dubliner Niamh Moriarty, 16, gets diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, the Irish Mirror reports.

The first episode on Monday night ended in plenty of praise flowing in for the Irish actress. One person said on Twitter: "Sharon Horgan really is superb in everything she does, isn’t she? Entirely believable whoever she’s playing. In whatever genre. #BestInterests"

Another wrote: "That was brilliant I loved the shards of humour shining through the hospital windows #BestInterests" A third said: "#BestInterests I am in bits but it's beautifully told and performed, and it's a story that needs telling. Brilliantly done."

Other fans praised the show but called it a "tough watch" due to its heartbreaking story. One person said: "Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen, both fantastic to watch in #BestInterests. It's a hard and emotional watch."

Another said: "#BestInterests , wow, Sharon Horgan & Michael Sheen are so good in this.. a tough watch for sure @BBCOne."

Sharon said she felt she could relate to her character's struggles to due to an experience of her own in real life. Her daughter, who is now 19, fell very ill at 16 months, and Sharon wasn't sure if she was going to make it. She told OK! Magazine that she felt "really connected" to her character Nicci with her attitude as a mother always being to do everything in her power to keep her alive.
