BBC viewers' message to Huw Edwards as Boris Johnson gives resignation speech

BBC viewers were all in agreement as Huw Edwards presented live coverage from Downing Street, where Boris Johnson resigned.

In a statement at 12.30pm today, Mr Johnson quit as Tory leader after admitting he failed to persuade Cabinet colleagues that he could fight on. The Prime Minister said it was "eccentric" to change governments at this stage but "I regret not to have been successful in those arguments".

A new Tory leader will now be put in place who will replace Mr Johnson in No 10. He said: "In politics, no one is remotely indispensable.

"I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world, but them's the breaks."

But while viewers were waiting to hear from the Prime Minister, Huw Edwards took us on a tour of the City of Westminster. As aerial shots were shown, Mr Edwards pointed out several department buildings and Horse Guards.

He also spoke about the architecture of the historical buildings. Taking to Twitter, many viewers said Mr Edwards may have found a new vocation.

Holly said: "BBC's Huw Edwards, filling time by giving us a guided tour of London landmarks."

Alison tweeted: "Huw Edwards filling time brilliantly (Downing St architecture??) like the expert he is."

Sara Louise added: "Quite enjoying Huw Edwards London tour guide bit."

Tom said: "Huw Edwards talking us through the view of Westminster is everything I needed on a Thursday morning."

Elijah said: "When Huw Edwards retires he’d make a lovely London tour guide."

Hare said: "Kudos to Huw Edwards for some top-notch time filling here. Did you know that these buildings we're seeing are actually Georgian-era?"

Rosianna said: "Huw Edwards has a career in helicopter architecture tours if he gives up on the news thing."

Patrick joked: "Am I watching a Prime Ministerial announcement or is Huw Edwards a new presenter on homes under the hammer, "We can see No 10 and we can see HoC"."

And Ed said: "Huw Edwards auditioning for a job on an open top bus here."
