BBC Three Drag Race UK vs The World: Michelle Keegan's rise to fame on Coronation Street and home renovation project ahead of TV judge debut

Actress Michelle Keegan will be making her debut as a TV judge as she has landed herself a role as a guest on BBC Three's RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World judging panel.

The 34-year-old actress is set to join Radio One DJ Clara Amfo, Michelle Visage and RuPaul on the fourth instalment airing on February 22 from 9pm.

Michelle is perhaps best known for her role in the soap Coronation Street, where she stayed for six years before moving on to TV dramas such as Ordinary Lies, Our Girl and Brassic.

Ahead of her appearance on the hit Drag Race show we've taken a look into the life and career of the actress:

Early life and career

Stockport-born Michelle was born in 1987 and when she first left school was working on a make-up counter in the Trafford Centre before landing her first big acting role.

She first appeared on our TV screens as Tina McIntyre in the Manchester soap Coronation Street in 2008.

Michelle was in her early 20s when she landed the role and was said to have beat 900 other people who were also auditioning for the part.

In 2008, she won her first award for Best TV Newcomer at the British Soap Awards and she also won Sexiest Female for six years in a row at the British Soap Awards between 2009 and 2014.

After six years on the soap, in 2013 she decided to leave and take the next step in her career. In a statement at the time, Michelle said: "I have had the most amazing 6 years at Coronation Street and it was such a difficult decision to leave.

"But I felt it was the right time for me to make the next step in my career. I will miss Tina and will always be grateful to ITV and Coronation Street for giving me such an amazing role to play for my first ever acting job."

Her character was killed off in a shocking final twist which saw Rob Donovan throw Tina McIntyre off the roof of a building in 2014.

Since leaving the cobbles, Michelle has starred in BBC drama Ordinary Lies in 2015 as Tracy alongside comedian Jason Manford and actress and writer Sally Lindsay.

In 2016, she then took over from EastEnders star Lacey Turner to feature in the BBC army drama Our Girl.

She played army medic Gerogie Lane for four series of the show - even winning a Best Actress Award in 2018 at the TV Choice Awards - but it was announced in 2020, that the drama would not be returning following Michelle's decision to leave the role.

In between filming for Our Girl, she also, in 2017, starred in ITV drama Tina and Bobby as Tina Moore/Tina Dean, the wife of the English professional footballer, Bobby Moore.

Since 2019, Michelle has been playing Erin in the Sky comedy-drama Brassic - which is co-created by Joe Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst.

Filming for the fourth instalment of Brassic is still underway and it is hoped the series will air later in 2022.

Alongside acting, Michelle also models and has her own clothing collection with Very.

She is now set to take on a brand new role as a TV judge on the BBC Three series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World. You can see a preview clip of her on the show below:

Personal life and recent home renovation

Michelle previously dated The Wanted star Max George for a couple of years but they split in 2011, just a year after they had got engaged.

She is now happily married to former The Only Way is Essex star Mark Wright - the pair first started dating in 2013 before tying the knot in a lavish wedding in 2015 in Hengrave Hall in Suffolk.

Appearing on the Jonathon Ross Show in 2019, Michelle was asked when her and Mark would be looking to start a family.

Michelle replied: "Not yet. Everyone always asks that question! Don't get me wrong, I'm not getting any younger. My mum is on it as well. No plans yet, but we definitely do want children in the future."

This month, Michelle's husband Mark, 35, - who is now a Heart Radio presenter - revealed his nickname for his wife is 'treacle pant'.

Speaking on his radio show in February 2022, The Mirror reported that Mark said: "Apparently the top names to call our partners are ‘babe’, I mean that’s standard. Also ‘sweetie’ - nah that’s not me, ‘honey bun’, ‘boo’, ‘handsome’, ‘princess’.

"I’ve thrown the odd princess out to my wife before I’m not going to lie. I sometimes call my wife treacle pant.

"I don’t know why, obviously you’ll be like ‘hello treacle’, but I put a ‘pant’ on the end, like treacle pants - but I take off the ‘s’, 'treacle pant you want a cup of tea?' I can’t believe I just said that live on radio!"

The couple have recently been sharing their property development project on their joint Instagram account @wrightyhome - which they set up in March 2021 - giving their fans an exclusive look into their dream home plans.

It has been reported that they bought the Essex mansion in 2019 for £1.3million and since July 2020 have been working on their dream home. Michelle's husband Mark has been sharing most of the pictures and videos of the renovation.

In a video in October 2019, he showed their 384k followers around the current build and where they are currently up to in the renovation process. He even climbed onto the roof to show the views from the property.

Was Michelle Keegan on Who Do You Think You Are?

Yes, Michelle was on the BBC One's celebrity genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are in May 2018, where she retraced her family tree on her mothers side of the family.

She discovered that her great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Kirwan had a special connection with suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, as she had been the registrar of her great-grandmother's birth certificate in 1904.

Michelle's great-great grandmother's commitment to the cause saw her casting her first vote in 1918.

Speaking on the BBC One show, Michelle said: "I can't believe it's only 100 years ago. When you say it, it doesn't seem very long. It wasn't even that long ago when this happened. That's amazing! That's unbelievable".

RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World continues on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer on Tuesday, February 22 from 9pm.
