But fans were stunned by his answer.
Host Romesh Ranganathan asked Tony, a famous radio presenter, what the 'B' in 'R&B' stood for.
But rather than saying the correct answer of 'blues', Tony said 'soul'.
Viewers couldn't believe Tony's answer with many taking to Twitter.
One said: "Tony Blackburn got a music question wrong?"
Jon said: "If Tony Blackburn can’t get a simple question right about R&B then this lot have no chance."
Another said: "Blackburn didn’t know rhythm and blues."
Mark said: "Soul!!!!! FFS NOOOOO."
Gee added: "Rythm and what."
And Jonny said: "Fair play to Tony Blackburn, he only just got a question wrong about the very thing he’s spent his whole life doing."
Romesh was also shocked by Tony's answer and asked him to explain his thought process.
He said: "Tony, obviously you're a broadcasting legend.
"I said to the guys [backstage] let's lead with a music question, start with a high.
"Have you heard of the new genre R&B?"
Tony said: "I don't know what made me say soul, it's obviously blues.
"When you asked me the question, your mind goes blank and my mind is blank most of the time anyway."
Romesh said: "It'd have to go pretty blank to think that soul started with B."
Tony said: "I know, I feel so ashamed."
