BBC The Traitors sees contestants 'crumble' after Alex drops betrayal bombshell

Double-crossing The Traitors pair Amanda and Wilf turned the screw further on their fellow contestants as the latest episode of the BBC show saw emotions running high - with a dramatic confession at the round table.

Tuesday night's instalment opened with Alex rejecting their offer to leave the Faithfuls and become a traitor - but she chose to keep it from most of the group until the round table meeting. She said of her decision to "politely decline": "I've seen how heavy the crown of being a traitor sits on those sitting around the table. I don't think I'd be able to do it. I may end up regretting this decision."

After Alex made her revelation, she told the table Maddy and Rayan had both been suggested as traitors. Attempting to defend himself, trainee lawyer Rayan told the group he had felt "powerless" because others had accused him of not getting involved in looking for the traitors.

He said: "Yes sometimes I'm undecided because I don't want to throw someone's name under the bus... at the end of the day I'm not going to put down the name of another faithful. I want to find more traitors."

Andrea was also left in tears when Amos suggested she could be a traitor. She insisted: "I just couldn't be a traitor, I couldn't. You can judge whatever you like, I'm trying my best, that's all I can do." Merril, too, was left visibly upset when Maddy suggested she could be secretly working against them.

Rayan became the latest Faithful to be banished, picking up seven votes. He told the group: "Thank you for this adventure, I've met some really nice people.

"I've challenged myself and I've done so much. It has been a really good time and I'm grateful for that. I am a Faithful. Goodnight."

Amanda and Wilf then decided to "murder" another contestant that night instead of attempting to recruit again. Will said: "Just seeing them shouting at each other..." Amanda added: "Crumbling in front of us."

She added: "It's a mastermind game, can they figure us out? At the moment, they can't because we're playing the game too well. We need to start getting those Faithfuls to dislike each other.

"I don't think at this moment in time anyone would join us to be a traitor, the emotions are far too high at the moment. I think we're in control of the plan at the moment and it's working for now."

Earlier in the show, the contestants were challenged to roll whisky barrels up a hill to add to their prize fund. Head of school welfare Fay then won a shield protecting her from elimination.

The show, presented by Claudia Winkleman, sees a group of strangers at a Scottish castle competing to win up to £120,000. However, hidden among them are the traitors - whose job is to secretly "murder" the others without getting caught.

If the traitors make it to the end, they take home the money. At the end of Tuesday's episode, the prize fund was up to £65,100.
