BBC The Traitors fans 'work out' winner as major twist goes under the radar

BBC The Traitors fans are looking forward to the final episode after the penultimate show was jam-packed with drama. The instalment, which aired on Wednesday, December 22, saw the only remaining traitor Wilfred Webster issue an ultimatum to a fellow team player.

After turning on his co-conspirator Amanda Lovett, Wilfred then asked Kieran Tompsett to join him on the dark side, if he said no he would be "murdered" and eliminated from the game. Kieran accepted the offer and the pair decided to axe 72-year-old Andrea.

Later in the game the remaining six sat down for a roundtable discussion in an attempt to banish a traitor. However, the majority of votes saw Maddy Smedley eliminated, meaning the faithfuls once again banished one of their own.

With both Andrea and Maddy eliminated only five contestants now remain. The finalists are Wilfred Webster, Kieran Tompsett, Hannah Byczkowski, Aaron Evans and Meryl Williams.

At the end of the episode, presenter Claudia Winkleman revealed how the final, which airs on Thursday, December 21, will work, explaining that the finalists will choose when the game ends during one more intense roundtable.

Claudia explained: "You have all played a blinder. You really deserve a great sleep, nobody is going to get murdered tonight. I tell you why you need a good night's sleep, tomorrow, you are going to face the mission to end all missions.

"Not only that, you're evening has the highest stakes yet. There will be a roundtable tomorrow, and after that, you will decide when the game ends. When you are confident that there are no remaining traitors, you just tell me, and the game ends.

"Remember, if there is a traitor or traitors remaining, they take the entire prize fund and it's a lot of money. It currently stands at £81,050."

Viewers were quick to predict the winners and speculated it could be Wilfred or Kieran as the rest of the contestants seem to be unaware there are now two traitors in the group after they successfully banished Amanda. Previously, the traitors have had the choice to "recruit" or "murder" but during the latest twist Kieran joined Wilfred and the pair eliminated Andrea, leaving the faithfuls none the wiser a recruitment had taken place under their nose.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "A traitor is definitely going to win then aren't they? There’s no way they'll think there's 2 of them left."

While another added: "I was thinking the same as if they thought 3 then they now only think there is 1 to find and there is two so the traitors would win by default if that’s the case."

And a third said: "I think the traitors will win, unless there a twist to help the faithfuls."

"I think they think there's only one traitor and not two and it makes it easier for one of the two traitors at least to win," said a fourth.

"Right so somebody tell me how tomorrow works," wrote one viewer. "They know there’s still a traitor among them right? So if they vote out a faithful they just keep going? Is there even a way for w&k to win together? If they just vote out ALL the faithfuls?"

The Traitors final airs on Thursday, December 22 at 9pm. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
