BBC The Traitors cast Instagram accounts, ages and jobs

The nation is currently gripped by BBC One's The Traitors. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the brand-new psychological competition sees 22 strangers come together to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing, and trust.

The players take on missions every episode in order to add money to the prize pot. However, hidden amongst them are the traitors whose job it's to secretly murder a player every night, without getting caught.

It's up to the others, the faithfuls, to try to detect who the traitors are, and banish them from the game before they become their next victims. You can read more about the premise, location and contestants on The Traitors here.

Originally, the traitors handpicked by presenter Claudia Winkleman were Alyssa, 22, Wilfred, 28, and 54-year-old Amanda who is an estate agent from Swansea. While Wilfred and Amanda have so far gone undetected, Alyssa was banished by the group after her co-conspirators shockingly turned on her during a roundtable vote-off. You can read more about the original traitors here.

And as eliminations continue and the group gets smaller it's getting harder and harder to know who to trust. You can see a full list of all the contestants who have been murdered or banished on The Traitors here.

But who are the contestants and what are their social media profiles? Here are all the details.

Amanda, 54 - Estate Agent

Amanda on The Traitors (BBC)

The estate agent from Swansea is one of the traitors handpicked by Claudia. The 54-year-old said of joining the show: "I've always liked watching reality TV, but they're always geared towards the younger generation.

"When I was 20, or 25, there weren't that many reality TV shows out there. That was something that appealed to me, as well as the logic behind the game, the secrecy. I think I can read people very well, so I really fancied having a go."

Aaron, 24 - Property Agent

On what he'd bring to the game, Aaron, from Portsmouth, said before the show started: "I've got a background in sales, so I'll be able to read people quite well. Body language, personality, that aspect. I'm also quite a happy chappy so I reckon I won't be too intense. I'll bring quite a lot of energy to the game."

Alex, 26 - Presenter and Actor

Alex on The Traitors (BBC)

Alex, from London, joined the competition because she thought it was "a really interesting concept". She said "There hasn't been a reality show like this. Something based on strategy and an adventure in the Scottish Highlands. I thought 'why not? Let's see where this goes and see what happens.'

Amos, 30 - Doctor

The doctor from North London was shockingly eliminated by Claudia in the very first episode but all was not as it seemed as he was later brought back to join the competition. Amos joined the show because he thought the concept sounded "pretty cool".

He said: "The fact that it was quite psychological and involved some thinking and strategy, interested me. Also, to explore how good I am at reading people and making judgments about their character and intentions based on very little information, I wanted to test that. "

Maddy, 29 - Receptionist

The receptionist and actor from Kent said: "I absolutely love crime dramas so when I heard about this show I was really interested and thought oh my god, I could definitely give it a bash."

Kieran, 42 - Solutions Consultant

The 42-year-old from Hertfordshire said he first heard about the show on Instagram He said: "I've never done anything like this before ever, some TV shows would not be of interest to me whatsoever. However, this had a pretty cool twist and stood out for quite a few reasons. Firstly, the BBC are doing it and secondly, the format is new. My first initial reaction was... it sounds intriguing."

Like Amos, Kieran was also brutally axed from the show but later returned in a surprise twist.

Theo, 26 - Cheerleading Coach

BBC The Traitors' Theo (BBC)

The cheerleading coach from Leeds said of joining the show: "I applied to push myself out of my comfort zone. It was the concept for the game that got me interested and the fear of the unknown. I've always liked to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things. I'm a coach by day so I always like to lead by example and show people that anything's possible when you work hard and push yourself to strive to achieve greatness."

Andrea, 72 - Retired

Speaking ahead of the show starting, Andrea said: "A few months ago, I saw the details about a new programme, The Traitors, and I just thought ‘why the hell not?’ It's as simple as that. What interested me about the concept was doing the missions. I don’t mind eliminating anybody and all the rest of it, but it was the idea of doing the missions and challenges that I liked."

Fay, 59 - Head of School Welfare

BBC The Traitors contestants Fay and Meryl (BBC)

Fay said: "The concept was obviously very appealing. I'm also coming to the end of my long and wonderful career in education. I've been at the same establishment for 29 years. I worked myself through the steps, I started on the ground floor and every five years my job evolved, where now I'm at the top of my game, I'm on the senior leader team. It's taken me a while to get there, however, I've always said that I'm going to retire at 60 and I'm 60 next February...people are shocked when I tell them that."

Meryl, 25 - Call Centre Agent

On what interested her about the concept, Meryl, who lives in Edinburgh, said: "The fact that it's brand new interested me the most. The fact that it's the first time it will be filmed in the UK, there is nothing that people can compare it to and I can make my mark on it.

"It sounds like a really good experience, especially up in the Scottish Highlands as I live in Scotland. I really like the idea of Traitors, the fact that you have to suss out who's lying. I thought it'd be a really, really good experience and something new to try and that’s why I'm going to go for it."

Wilfred, 28 - Senior Fundraiser

Wilfred on The Traitors (BBC)

The second traitor to be chosen by Claudia, Wilfred is a senior fundraiser from North London. He said: "For me, I work within the face-to-face fundraising industry, and I've learnt over the years to be able to positively persuade people to take positive action. So instead of using these skills for positive, this is a chance to be able to use them to manipulate instead."

Hannah, 32 - Comedian

Hannah describes herself as a "complete excitement seeker" and said she wanted to join the show as she used to play a board game with her friends that’s quite similar. She said: "I’m not really a games person, I get quite bored with them but secretly that’s a game I really loved. Also, I liked the idea of spending all this time outside of your normal world with no phone or communication, just focusing on this. I think it's one of those opportunities that you're not going to get ever again."

Alyssa, 22 - Business Student

Alyssa was one of the traitors (BBC)

The business student was the first traitor to be caught after she was thrown under the bus by her fellow co-conspirators, Wilfred and Amanda. On joining the show, Alyssa explained: "I love to challenge myself, I really like pushing my boundaries and just getting out there. This is something that I would never usually do, I don't have any experience with TV shows, so I wanted to give this a shot."

Rayan, 25 - Trainee Lawyer

Rayan was wrongfully banished by his fellow players during a roundtable. The trainee lawyer was one of the many faithfuls voted off the show, ahead of joining the line-up, Rayan said: "It’s really just a taste for drama. I wanted something juicy, dramatic, tense and chaotic. I know I will thrive in that sort of environment, so it felt like the perfect fit for me. I've never been to Scotland and I hope it’s going to be a dramatic first trip.

Tom, 24 - Magician

Tom is a magician (BBC)

Tom, who kept his relationship with co-star Alex quiet during the start of the series, was also banished by his fellow players. Explaining why he joined the show in the first place, Tom said: "I’m a magician and I love fooling and tricking people. I get great satisfaction out of spending hours upon hours building up anticipation for this one moment.

"When it came to this show I loved the idea that I'd possibly build up a fake character of myself to try and deceive people just for that payoff of knowing that I could deceive them. I liked the challenge of it all, making my magic tricks real almost."

Ivan, 32 - Author

Author Ivan from Cornwall said before joining the show: "I'm obsessed with games, and I recently wrote a couple of books full of hundreds of games that groups of friends or families would play together. I’m fixated on the way that games fit together and strategies on how to win."

Ivan, who has since been banished from the game, added: "Most of my job is running games sessions, I run big games nights. I'm always writing them and never playing them, I feel like I've built up this huge reservoir of strategies and opportunities, but I’ve never got a chance to try them all out. This is a lifelong love mixed with a frustration that I never get to actually play."

John, 49 - Spa Therapist

Maddy, left, and John, middle, have both previously appeared on BBC's EastEnders (BBC)

The spa therapist from Edinburgh said before joining the series: "I was scrolling on social media one day in between my day job and the advertisement came out, the title really grabbed me. When I read the article, I thought it sounded like a really interesting experience, something that's never been done before and I liked the fact that they were doing it in Scotland. I sent a little video and thought nothing else of it, it was a bit of a whirlwind.

"The location being Scotland is what drew me to it as well, being a Scotsman, I've lived in London for a long time and I'd moved back just 18 months ago and if I was lucky enough to be the winner, winning something in my homeland, I'd be the king of the castle, the King of Scotland." Sadly, like Matt, John was murdered by his fellow players.

Matt, 23 - BMX Athlete

Matt, 23, joined the show when he was hungover. He said: "I'll be honest, the first time I heard about it I was really hungover on a train. It came up and I thought it sounded like a laugh... and now I'm in Scotland. He was murdered by the traitors during the competition.

Nicky, 45 - Accounts Supervisor

Nicky Wilding, from Croydon, has an inspirational story and fans were gutted to see her leave the BBC show so early (BBC)

Explaining her motivation for doing the show, Nicky said: "I have been raising money for bionic hand control by thought and the fact that there is a substantial amount of money up for grabs, that would enable me to get the treatment that I need to get another hand.
"I had a severe nearly fatal car crash at the age of 22. My son was only four years old and I've had to be strong, I've had someone that's dependent on me. I've had to permanently change the way my life is and the way I do things and also be a role model to my son."

Claire, 43 - Ex-Police Officer and Entrepreneur

Claire was murdered by her fellow players quite early on as they saw her as a threat. Talking about her motivation for the show, Claire said: "My motivation is to completely challenge myself and see how many fears I can get over, to see how good I am at reading people in a non-policing environment and a non-mothering environment.

"A lot of people will be going into this for the money, my only motivation is that I want the experience, I want the challenge and I want to do this for me – that's it."

Imran, 23 - Scientist

Imran being banished on The Traitors (BBC)

Imran a Scientist said of what interested him about the show: "When looking at the concept of the show, the idea that you have Traitors existing simultaneously with Faithfuls and how to discern the difference between the two, fundamentally is a social science question. I come from a background where I do a lot of academically strong sciences. There are certain academic principles that I've practiced in my profession, and I wanted to see if that could be applied in a very social science setting, which is the main reason for me being on the show."

Aisha, 23 - Masters Graduate

Aisha was sadly the first contestant to be officially murdered in the castle. Discussing why she joined the show, Aisha said: "When I was at university and in lockdown, my friends always said, ‘we think you'd be good on reality TV.’ Also, I've gone to university, I've got a Masters degree, but I do come out with some silly things at times. I wanted to go on one of these shows to prove that I can do it and remind people not to underestimate me, that was one of my motivations."
