BBC The Traitors' Alex Gray on what viewers 'don't see' as she shares statement after exit

BBC The Traitors saw Amanda and Wilfred strike again on the episode that aired on Thursday, December 15 as they chose to eliminate Alex Gray. The 26-year-old was the latest to be "murdered" by her fellow players after declining an invitation to join the other side. You can see the full list of those who've left the show here.

A position became available on the traitors' team after Alyssa, who was handpicked to be a traitor from day one alongside Wilfred and Amanda, was banished from the game, becoming the first traitor the faifthfuls managed to correctly vote off. You can read what she had to say about her exit here.

Wilfred and Amanda then had the opportunity to recruit a faithful into the fold, but presenter Claudia Winkleman later revealed Alex had declined the inviatation. As a consequence, Wilfred and Amanda then chose to "murder" Alex the next chance they got.

Now, following her exit, Alex has issued a lengthy statement to social media, sharing what viewers don't see and calling the show one of the most "psychologically challenging things" she ever experienced.

In a Twitter thread, Alex explained: "So, my time on #TheTraitors draws to a close. One of the most psychologically challenging things I’ve ever experienced. I danced with regret this week about turning down the role of Traitor, as I knew I had signed my death warrant.

"However... At that moment in time, my gut screamed at me to turn it down. Of course my logical brain spelled out the 'm o n e y' to me, as I felt like I could have sweeped through till the bitter end unscathed. 'Bitter' being the pertinent word here. What the viewer doesn’t see is the immense pain seeing other human beings, who consequentially all became friends, tear eachother apart.

"The extreme exhaustion from sleepless nights, long filming days, constant anxiety + serious paranoia. It soon ceased to be a game and the ruthlessness blurred into our reality. I entered the game believing that strategy, game theory + logic would reign.

"However, the 'strangers' that were once pawns in my plans, soon became real, living, breathing sensitive individuals with pain + tears in their eyes. Emotion + exhaustion avalanched me... ultimately being my downfall in this 'game' of strategy, deception and lies."

Alex continued: "I appreciate all the love & support, you have all made me smile from ear to ear and laugh out loud at your wit. I wish the best of luck to the remaining contestants … and want to thank ALL involved at @BBCOne, @studiolambert for making TV GOLD & blessing me with such an incredible opportunity.

"Special mention to @ClaudiaWinkle for bringing such immense charm and GORGEOUS hair (it really is as shiny irl). LOTS OF LOVE AG."

For those unfamiliar with the premise, The Traitors sees 22 strangers come together to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing, and trust.

The players work together every episode to take on missions in order to add money to the prize pot. However, hidden amongst them are the traitors whose job it is to secretly murder a player every night, without getting caught.

It's up to the others, the faithfuls, to try to detect who the traitors are, and banish them from the game before they become their next victims. There is a whopping £120,000 up for grabs, but staying in the game isn't easy as there are many twists and turns along the way.
